Can anyone give me atleast 5 or if possible more, solid reasons to build my company's web portal using DNN and NOT using a starter kit like "The Beer House" http://www.asp.net/downloads/starterkits/TheBeerHouse.aspx?tabid=62 and developing on it.

I need to start development in the coming week and need some sincere advise so that i can take unregretful decision.

The portal I need to build is a full content management website with an admin interface.

for starters...

how about the 350,000 people using DNN

64,000 posts on the DotNetNuke.com forums

4,000 modules available on snowcovered.com

2,000 skins available on snowcovered.com

That makes about 420,000 reasons

1.   The admin interface is already built.
2.   The security roles, user accounts and skinning are already built.
3.   The core modules include a forum and other modules that work out of the box.
4.   Look for the User Defined Table module.   This module is truly indespensible.
5.   Look for the Repository module.  See #4.
6.   Support Active Directory "out of the box".
7.   Now we come to custom module development.
You can buy or build your own in VB.NET or C#.NET.

There is lots more but I am tired of typing....

If you don't want to make a bad decision, then perhaps you may need to spend some real time with the short-list of choices so you DONT make a regretful decision.

You'd hate to find out something half-way through dev that just not going to work with your choice.

Good luck!

I agree. I started using DNN because it already had the framework in place. I just create custom modules for use inhouse.

The learning curve is quite steep but once you are there, it is actually quite enjoyable. :-)
