I am running a DNN 2.1.2 portal on one server and I wish to migrate this portal to another server which is running mulitple portals on DNN 3.3.5.

Are there any automated tools that can assist with a portal move?

Has anyone attempted this type of move before and can offer any tips as how to go about this?

I'm guessing that it's best to first update the 2.1.2 to the same version, but suspect that it's going to rely on lots of database record copies between the 2 database servers using Enterprise Manager.

I am concerned about the user security - passwords etc. Is all this possible whilst maintainiong the current user password configuration?

Any tips would be most welcome.

Nothing automated as far as I know. I have done this with several sites and it is no easy task. You are going to have to bring a copy of the live site local.

Before going any further though, I am somewhat confused by your request her. Do you plan on trying to take the 2.1.2 site and merge it in with the existing 3.3.5? If that is the case, I don't know a good way to do this and have never attempted such a thing.

hi crispy,

thanks for the reply.

what I have now is one server with a single DNN 2.1.2 portal and another server with three DNN 3.3.5 portals running. My aim is to consolidate the servers to only one and migrate the 2.1.2 DNN to the other server.

I suspect that this is not going to be an east task.
