Today I reflected on the behaviour of the Alias field in 'my settings'. If I try to save an email address, it's striped from the @ and only the left side of the address is preserved as an Alias. ( This is good ). However, I have a system where I use my own Membership provider and uses email as login credentials. Naturally without changing the Core so the email address ends up being the alias.

As it's added to the forum (Automatically), the Forum Alias is reflected as the full Email address.

Question here is. Shall the truncation of the email Address also be performed with the "automatic adding" at the first visit to the forum by a user?

Cheers,
/Rob

PS: I wish the core considered making a switch to allow email as login credentials. (I have seen the thread in asp.net, but still desire it)

I like to report this as a bug. I tried to do this in Gemini but I couldn’t add it under the forum project.

The same rules for saving an email alias in the My settings section has to be applied as to populate my settings on the first visit.

I use email as primary login username, and I need to clean up the UI's that exposes the username. There are no reasons why it's allowed through the automatic registration and not through the manual.

If a duplicate exists, then it's needed to be made unique, trailing numbers/letters OR a GUID. ;o)
