After a successful install why can't I open the DotNetNuke project without receiving over 1000 errors?  I can navigate the portal through the browser fine but can't open the project to work.  Nothing will compile.  Please help/advise.

I assume you are referring to running the installation from source code in VS versus running the installation from your browser.

A lot of times when I start with a fresh source install I will get a lot of errors (maybe 100's not 1000's) after the first compile. I'm not really sure why but by compiling a second time usually the errors will go away. If you leave some of the .ascx files open in VS a lot of times you will receive errors from such things as code containing capital letters which VS2005 does not like at all but the pages will still run in the browser.

I'm not sure what your specific problem is but just offering some suggestions.

Mike, thanks so much for the reply.  I'm still at a stand still here.

The install I did was through the browser.  Since I can browse and use the portal I assume everything installed ok.

All I am trying to do is open the project.  It's at this point I receive all my errors.  Why is it I cannot simply open the project without receiving so many errors?

I tried everything from scratch - reinstall operating system, sql server, dnn.  Still after the conversion to VS2005 I cannot open the project without the errors.

Must be something wrong with my environment??

Thanks!

Thanks for your help, sir.  However, I am also getting hundreds (at least) of errors even after following your DNN Source Installation instructions exactly.  All of the errors seem to be related to namespaces and objects not being declared.  In the warnings, I see that it is unable to find certain module files like this:

Error 4 Unable to open module file 'C:\sourceinstall\Library\Components\Lists\ListInfo.vb': The system cannot find the file specified.  C:\sourceinstall\Library\Components\Lists\ListInfo.vb 1 1 DotNetNuke.Library

Maybe that's the problem, but why are these files missing when I just downloaded the source?
