I copied my site and SQL 2000 database to a new Virtual PC and upgraded from DNN 03.01.00 to 04.03.06.  I changed my connection string and my site upgraded and functioned, but I was unable to log in with any of my known username / password combinations.  I thought I had followed the instructions, but apparently I missed the part about copying the "MachineValidationKey" and "MachineDecryptionKey".  Once I realized this, I copied them over but I am still unable to log in.  I get “A critical error has occurred. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.” I still have all my original files saved.  Is there a way to recover the ability to login without starting from the top?

Thank you,

Robert Baker

Yes I backed up everything. However, I just realized that I am unalbe to log into the old DDN site either. There was a server issues and our ISP had to restore the whole drive; since then I found out that our webmaster has not been able to log in.  Is there a facility to re-seed the host password?

Not completely sure if I understand your question, but why don't you copy the pre update backup of the DNN folder to the server and restore the database...?
That should do it or not?
