The forums module was pretty self explainatory.  I was able to setup folders (i.e. groups and group lists) at my website http://www.NewTechnologyAdvantage.com but I can't quite figure out how to get the NEW THREAD button to display for registered users so they can add their own new topics within a pre-existing folder.

My goal is to set it up where everyone (even those not logged in can view information).  But to see the NEW THREAD button or edit things they must be logged in as a registered user.

Currently I can only see the NEW THREAD button when logged in as the superuser account.

Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Allow Registered Users Edit Permissions for the module.

Do you know the truth when you hear it?

Yes.  That seemed like a good idea.  But when I tried it.  The NEW THREAD button still did not appear.  The person I logged in as was in the Registered Users group and the Subscribers group.   I was running version Dnn 3.1.1.

Any other thougts what might be wrong ?

The docs say this isn't necessary, but on my site it was needed (unless I missed something else):

  1. Go to Forum->Manage Forum
  2. Open the forum group to work on.
  3. Click the Pencil to edit the forum
  4. Expand general settings
  5. Set an Authorized Edit role, like Registered users

Hello,

As it turned out I had forgot the obvious... (security settings at the module level).  They default to inheriting from the page (which may only allow registered users to view not edit).

The modules settings for security must be set to all users can VIEW and registered users can EDIT if you had the goal in mind I was trying to achieve.

Securiy settings at the module level solved my problem.

Apparently the EDIT authority inside the forum inself is referring to after a registered user posts a NEW THREAD they can go back and change things if they see a spelling error or something similiar.

Thanks for your help!
