Smehaffie thanks for your reply.

I have added an alias called intranet but when I try to access dotnetnuke through http://intranet it does not work. What am I doing wrong or is there anything else that I have to change?

You have to add the URL to your DNS server or add the URL to you local hosts file (so the IP is associated with the URL).

I stii have not configured the DNS, but how do I add the URL to the local hosts file?

Edit the following file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.  Add and entry for your URL

127.0.0.1 {Your domain name / URL}

Smehaffie thanks for your reply. I have edited my hosts file as suggested bu it still does not work. See below.  

# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1   intranet

127.0.0.1 localhost

Any other suggestions?
