I am trying to build a community website with a main portal with shared information and child portals for individual regional workgroups with there own users and adminstration control.  I would like to have registered users be able to move back and forth between in the Main Portal and their Child Portal without having to re log in.

This must be a common situation with some sort of approach.

Any help would be appreciated,

Mike

I would also like to implement this... Is it possible for a user to create an account on the main website www.mysite.com and also be allowed to log in with the same user name & password on our subsites www.mywebsite.com/subsite1 ?

That's the way it worked on my portal (which was 4.0.2) -- users with an authorized account on the root portal could log in at the root portal www.bringhome172nd.org and then click over to their personal sub-portal www.bringhome172nd.org/jakesmom (for example) and their login was persistent. (Site has since been taken down.)

I am running 4.3.5. Mike what version of dnn are you using? When I create an account on the top level, and go to the subsite I am logged out and can't log in with the username and password from the top level website. After I log in as host, the account is only found on the top level site. Why isn't this possible? You would think if you have an account on the main top level site you should be able to log into the sub site. Why can't we get this to work?

I don't know which version you are using but I am using the Portal SSO product from WorkControl.
They have a version for DNN 3.x on their site and the DNN 4.x version is at Snowcovered.

As a new child portal is created I add the module to a hidden tab and in the settings I set the module to inherit logon ID's from the portal of my choice.  It works well.
