I’m a programmer on DNN site and I just recently noticed that when Google bot is coming to site it always getting Error Page. I have DNN 4.0.2.31882 installed and I’m running it on ASP.NET 2.0.

I was trying to find information about this bug on your forum, but didn’t find anything, except few people with the same problem.

I made some investigation on this problem and I found out that the problem UserAgent in GET request. If I use Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) UserAgent, then I get right page, but if I use Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html), then I Error Page.

If you need more information about problem feel free to ask me.

Thanks,
Victor

My site is logging an error on google bot visits because of a more than 250 char url to my forum tab, which I move several times from top tab to a child page so the url is long

It’s definitely not the case for me, because this error happens for all pages (even with much shorter URLs).

By the way, I just noticed that if I use short url (default.aspx?tabid={id}), then GET is working even if you send GoogleBot’s UserAgent. So apparently it’s connected to long urls.

I’m pretty sure that DNN has code which depending on browser performs different actions and in my case it’s throwing exception for GoogleBot. Does anybody know if I can configure how DNN handles browsers? If so, I can just tell DNN to handle GoogleBot same way as IE or Firefox.
