I have been working with media and other mods that upload MP3;s and video.

One fix is the is the one posted earlier.

Second is that I have been told that there are file upload limitations within DNN ? not sure about this one, but I did follow the advice of someone to request my hosting provider to enable "Large File Uploading".

Next I decided to use only URL reference to the file . I manually load the file to folder on DNN installation via FTP

Then copy the URL  ex: http://mywebsite.com/portals/myMP3folder/myMP3.mp3  into media module.

I have since started doing all media files in this manner, the biggest reason is it does'nt take any database overhead(space) and this means quicker loading time. I don't know who you host with and if the first suggestion will work for you. I know that the combinations have helped me to upload any file size with in reason, "I'm not doing movies" Google and other video sites restricte there uploads to 100mb I use this as my rule of thumb as well. I have loaded without problems files larger than this.

I hope this can help you

Ok. Where do I go to find the web.config file?

For hosting, I'm using Go Daddy. The majority of the mp3's are between 25 to 35 megs. If I set the settings, to the size mentioned above, would this be large enough? Thanks so much for all the help so far. I'm hoping I can get this working.

Well web.config file is located in the root of your DNN installation. Hopefully you installed DNN on your own into Godaddy?. If not your going to need some help from godaddy customer service. You will find many posts here about Godaddy, not all good. After two years of trying out different hosts. I have finnaly settled on PowerDNN but it can be pricey if your not serious about DNN. There support is geared to DNNers godaddy is not. Also you should take a look at some other mods that can do what you need. "Ventrian" module and look on snowcovered.com good luck

Ok. I've only been able to find 6 files under the root directory with Godaddy. This file is not in there. I called Godaddy and they tried to find this file. After 20 minutes on the phone, they said they don't see this file anywhere. We also tried the resource.config file. No luck.

The other programs you mentioned for me to try. Will I be able to upload large MP3's with them to DNN, without haveing to worry about editing this web.config file? I tried to downsample the MP3's however they are still around 20mb. When I click upload file, DNN sits for about 1 minute, then says "Page Not Found."

Cory - the web.config file will be in the root of the physical folder that your DNN site was unzipped into.  You need to find and change this setting.  If you tell them this they should be able to find it.  If they can't - find a new host.  Seriously.

Take a look at the installation zip for DNN.  If you familiarize yourself with what it looks like you might be able to see something you recognize as you look around in your hosting account.

Sometimes hosts will also have to change their settings for buffer length in the IIS metabase.  This setting is at the server level - meaning it will be all sites, not just yours that are constrained.  Until you increase the size within your own web.config we can't say where the issue is.
