Hi folks,

This is my first time posting here, and using DNN. I'm in the process of deploying a client site which needs an online catalog, sort of a cross between a photo gallery and an inventory utility. I've been trying to do it in UDT, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get it to come out the way I want.

I've been looking at modules like ListX and Xmod, and I was wondering what people would recommend. The end product that I deploy needs:

Custom layouts for both page display and the entry form for adding information
Ability to filter, search and sort data, both from user selections and in data views for specific pages
Ability to associate multiple photographs with each record
Ability to have different page views for each record- ie, there might be one page with the catalog entry, and one page with the photos, but they still need to be using the same dataset and accessible through the same module.
Ability to either output data records to a file, or send them via FTP to another location, preferably in conjunction with the DNN scheduler.

Probably sounds like the sort of thing I should do with a custom module, but I know very little about .NET at this point, so I was hoping to find something that I could configure to do most of this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I can see that Catalook store could do all this. It has some of the other things build in that work with scheduler that might help, but it does allow for custom page display, adding items through a form (or import based on xls sheet for volumes), it allows to search, filter on specific paramater, some are already set but if you code, you should be able to add other items, - not sure about having different page view for each item though, but I do know you can split categories up and assign a different skin on each category - (that might help)

You can purchase the source code for catalook and further enhance it - I've seen some great work done with custom development.

I've seen some other specific catalogue apps but they don't look quite as professional, I'll have a look for my links and let you know - I simply cannot think of them at the top of my head right now.

The key is I suppose to find something similar with source provided to give you a head start..

You should also look at H2O, like Xmod and ListX but with a different feature set.  However, I agree with Nina on this.  You may be better off with an eCommerce module like CataLook (an outstanding module) then a custom forms module like H2O, Xmod or ListX.

I'll look at those, thanks for the tips. This isn't actually for eCommerce, though, it's a brick business. Having upload forms for the client is a main thing, as they'll be updating inventory on a daily basis- it's not like a web product catalog where they can just upload a standard list of products and then point people to it.
