There isn't a specific document, but there are a bunch of resources.  Check the documentation page on this site. Check the beta site for some links. (See blog for link)

I've started putting together skinning resoureces for the DNN FOrum Module as well.  Register on skin3.com and go to this page:

I would wait for the next release before I started working on anything...
