Is there a way to restrict access to a file that has been uploaded on a DNN portal so that only logged in users can see that file? For instance, I'm using the Links module, and I upload a PDF file called "WhatsNewandFixed.pdf" and make it available to all Registered users. Once a user bookmarks that link, they are able to pull up that document at anytime without being logged into the portal. What concerns me is that the link can be forwarded on to anyone. I'm hoping that there is a way to make the file available only to registered users who are currently logged into the portal. I prefer not to store documents in the database. I'm currently using 2.1.2 and 3.2.0, but plan to migrate to 4.x.x soon.

Thank you!

Links use FileTickets which expire after a given amount of time. If they are not expiring, you are most likely using a version of DNN lower then when the feature was introduced. You would need to upgrade to get this functionality.

Thanks for the quick response!

I loaded 4.3.7 onto a test machine, added the Links module to a page, and uploaded a PDF file. I copied the shortcut to the PDF file, logged out of IE, pasted the shortcut into the address bar, and was able to open the file. I also used Firefox on a different machine, and was able to open the file without any problem.

You said that FileTickets expire after a given amount of time. Is there a way to modify this time?

Thanks again.

WOW, I really have missed some posts here. Sorry about this.

As I know it, there is no way to set the time for this. I will confirm this ASAP for you.
