It is always a good idea to take the new web.config. New config key are added and some are removed and not having the fresh config will brake things.

Also, if your modules are for commercial purposes changing on DNN code is not a good idea.

Thanks a lot for your help, i found the problem. After your detailed instruction how you do your upgrades, i was sure that the problem is not the process of upgrading but there must be something else inside the 4.3.7 package. At the end i found a minor error in the new starter kit - when you (re)compile the code / site / modules and start a debugger sesssion you can not connect to the (local) testsite. This didn't happen on 4.3.5. I hope it will be fixed in the next version - i personally like the VS with the ASP Debugger.

I know changing the code of a framework when you are not involved in the development team/process brings a lot of troubles and besides extra effort when you have to upgrade a system. As you've seen that my english is not so good - i'm living in austria. Some of my customers need a special language selector which does not met the standard code - the modules we intend to purchse are of course compatible to the standard code / framework.
