I am still very green and are exploring the DNNcreative website (thanks to whomever suggested that to me BTW). A question came to my mine. Now I figure that DNN needs .net hosting. That part appears obvious to me. But whats with a DNN portal? Can anyone explain to me what that is.. and is it different then just simple .net hosting?

thanks

Brad

One of the key features of DNN is site virtualization. This means that you can run any number of websites (called portals) on one DNN application instance. The application needs asp.net (dnn 3 needs asp.net 1.1, dnn 4 needs asp.net 2.0), and sql server, once the application is running, you can create as many portals as you like...

Ok, next question along those lines is this. Some providers I have been shopping for say they have Dotnetnuke hosting portals. Is that a requirement in order to run DNN? Or is running DDN on a windows server with the correct ASP.NET installed all I need?

Thanks

Brad
