It appears that DNN appends a <br> at the end of each module, making a horizontal gap between modules:

        </TR>
      </TABLE>
      <BR>

How do I remove the "<br>"?

Is this coded into your skin file?  Why not create a working copy and open it in NotePad, search for the break?

This is something I tried to take out long ago, but we had to put it back because the installed base of DNN sites is so large and it changes the way they layout if they upgrade.

Here's a trick to get around it though:
