I currently have a DNN website and I am having trouble getting to go live.  The IP address of the virtual directory is 12.27.134.116/DNN.  This IP address is accessable via the outside world.  I am tring to get it to be accessable via the name of dev.hyper.com.  I added the name dev to the DNS and it doesnt work.

I have tried adding it to the IIS under Advanced web site Identification and still nothing.  I also added an alias to the DNN site of dev.hyper.com/dnn .  How on earth do I get this to work.  I need it done asap!!!

If you point dev.hyper.com/dnn to a regular html page does it work? Is this your DNS server or are you using something else (such as ZoneEdit)? Don't forget that it can take up to 48 hours before any DNS changes get propogated out to other DNS servers.

It is the DNS server and it is pointed to the IP 12.27.134.116 and I cant figure out how to get it to point to the actual directory.

Okay, here's how I setup http://dnn.gmss.org on my Windows 2003 domain.

  1. On the DNS server under the forward lookup zone for gmss.org I created an Alias(CNAME) called dnn and pointed it to the webserver (I used the actual server name instead of the IP address).
  2. In IIS I setup a website that pointed to the directory I'm using and under Advanced (by the IP address) I set the Host header as dnn.gmss.org
  3. On the portal itself I gave it an alias of dnn.gmss.org

Now because you want it to go to dev.hyper.com/dnn then I think you'll have to point dev.hyper.com to an empty directory (or one that has a placeholder html file in it) and then put your dnn files in a sub directory call dnn. I don't think you can point DNS or Host Headers to a child website.
