Hi,

I built DNN4.3.5 site with several custom DataProvider project. And I created a Web Services project trying to utilize the dataprovider to access different databases. Compile successful. But Error occured when Web Services function called:

The type initializer for ....DataProvider' threw an exception

I believe error occurred from:

{

CreateProvider();

}

static DataProvider()

 Anyone could tell the details? where to create web services project, and web.config details?

Thanks to all.

I can't offer direct help but I was just reading this new blog from Michael Washington about what he's doing and has done with web services & DNN. Make sure to check out the website he has set up for it (see the blog).

Hope this helps.

Hi, phabyn,

Thanks a lot for the hint, I download the IWeb module, and made some modification with the help of Michael Washington, it works now.

Basically as following:

1.

create a new module in DNN4,

2.

add WebService.asmx to the module under desktopmodules, and add WebService.cs in WebService folder under app_code folder,

3.

Add following nodes to DNN web.config

<

<

<

</

codeSubDirectories>add directoryName="IWeb" />add directoryName="WebServices" />codeSubDirectories>

4.

create function calling any functions from any DNN dataprovider in WebService.cs,

it works fine now.

If you need any details, please let me know.

Thanks again to Michael Washington and phabyn. Really appreciate.

They are slightly outdated but they work - check Dave Buckner's site for C# and VB.Net web service samples, with PA and/or source included. See http://www.davebuckner.com/Default.aspx?tabid=56. He also has a very cool Admin control panel that no site should be without (hope he doesn't mind the visibility).

Thanks to adefwebserver (MW) as he is raising the visibility of WS a little.

To any forum visitors, how about adding to this thread with findings, code, helpers, tutorials, etc. I never got too much into web services until recently and can think of some killer DNN applications that can be accomplished with a little help from Flex.
