I notice that when I change Announcements, adding a new or deleting an old annoucement, it is slow to show changes in the RSS feed, sometimes not showing changes at all, leaving the new Announcement out of the feed altogether (or still showing a deleted Announcement in the feed). Anyone else having core "Allow Syndicate" RSS trouble w/ Announcements, either slow or no changes to the feed, even when the module clearly shows the added/deleted Annoucements? Does anyone have any tweaking suggestions?

I notice when I make changes to the FAQs Module, for example, the changes show up quickly in RSS feed. For this reason I thought maybe the problem is part RSS, part Annoucements Module?

If a problem can be solved, there's no use worrying about it.
If it can't be solved, worrying will do no good.

As the RSS feature of most core modules (with the exception of Forums and Blogs) is powered by the search indexer, the appearance of new items in the rss feed is dependant of the frequency of the search index. Also.. i believe rss feeds are cached, so it will take some time for new items to appear in the feed. Mind you.. this is not module specific, this works the same for all modules that implement ISearchable....

Thank you for this insight. Since I have not worked much with the DNN search engine, I will look into how I might manage it, and the cache, with respect to feeds. I would like to come up with a concrete estimate of about how long it takes a feed channel to update and reflect changes made in a module, for my particular installation. This will help me to answer customer's questions and concerns about the lag time.

I'm having the same problem from the announcment module. We've cleared the caches, checked the search indexer and scheduler. Everything is set up correctly and refreshing correctly but the rss feed remains as it was when first created, it never updates. I haven't tried it from any other module - only Announcments

It appears that objects like Announcements scheduled for future display, or deleted Announcments, are still in the database and so the search engine is seeing them and displaying them in the feed. The Search engine is probably not programmed to know the logic of each module, like the Announcement module, and the field to "display at a future date/time".

Seems there needs to be a way to MARK an item, record or object in the database as Do Not Index. In this case, for example, an Announcement scheduled to be displayed at some future date/time would be flagged for the Search engine to ignore/do not index, until such time as the flag is removed, then Index this item and show it in the feed, too.

I am not sure exactly how things work under the DNN hood, but this could explain the slow/no feed update issue.
