There are different modules around that do subscription - http://www.ventrian.com is probably the best when it comes to straight subscription based websites, but when you start talking about putting products online, then you do need to look at a more 'store based' system and catalook is well suited for it. It does has have a subscription model, but I've not used that extensively, however, I have had to problem solve and customise skins that run catalook and subscription together. It's a bit tricky, but it does work.

What you could do is use the subscription module from ventrian and use catalook just for the store if you wanted simplicity, but if are prepared to spend a bit of time learning how to perfect the subscription area (and then teach me :-D) then I think catalook is a great solution.

I have a separate support site for catalook - which is great to see the community starting to support (sometimes I can't answer all the questions, but there are some smart people using catalook and doing some cool things with it) We all have to start somewhere - that site is http://www.catalooksupport.com and it has a specific catalook forum which we answer questions where possible.

Hope this gives you enough ammunition to make some further decisions.
