I have a similar probelm.  I did a new install and everything seemed OK.  Then after going through the Admin Config Wizard, nothing works: http://dotnetnuke.my-test.com/Default.aspx ???

me 3, new to dnn as well.  its a null exception in the OnInit sub in the TreeViewMenu control (root\admin\skins\).  To 'work around', comment out the three lines as show below, load up dnn, and change your skin to something without the tree view.

anyone have a fix for this???

'InitializeNavControl(Me.cellBody, "DNNTreeNavigationProvider")
'AddHandler Control.NodeClick, AddressOf DNNTree_NodeClick
'AddHandler Control.PopulateOnDemand, AddressOf DNNTree_PopulateOnDemand
