Unregistered users are simply unauthenticated users.  Unauthenticated users are able to read posts and all their details as well as view user profiles.  The only thing an unauthenticated user cannot do is post.  Of course, the users need read rights to the module of course.  There are no plans to add the ability for unregistered users to post at this time.
