FLV Video in DNN
I just wanted to take the time to tell others of my experience and a cheap and effective solution to using FLV video with DNN.
As many will be aware, choosing the right website video delivery format can be a problem as some browsers (quite reasonably?) block activeX controls such as windows media player and other formats may require a user download.
The only video playback component that you can always be sure of having access to is the Flash Player and now, with the new FLV we have a high quality web video format that is usable.

Making FLV Clips
Apart from the obvious, Flash8, most modern non-linear video editing software will provide a range of FLV export options.
I have not yet found any cheap encoding alternatives but admit not looking that hard yet.
The FLV format seems to make approx 20% bigger files than WMV for the similar encoding settings but this may change with more experience on my part.

Assuming you are starting from a native DV video format you will probably need to scale down the frame size when you export it so as to arrive at the best picture quality/ file size balance.
If you are in a PAL region your  DV will be 720px x 576px. A sensible method is to simply halve these values and enter them as the resulting video frame size.
Be aware that if your clip has any black borders then these will also be included so it may be a good idea to crop or clip these out first.
In most editors Crop removes and resizes - Clip removes and does not resize.
You can crop in most encoders and you may need to do this again for some formats to remove any new black borders inseted by the enoder when you select an encoding preset.
We do new edits of programme material for web video, or if we know that the delivery format is the web we try to:
Avoid complex transitions (or test encode first). Make titles in a clear sans serif typeface taking into account the scaling process to come.

A good starting point for the FLV encoding delivery settings is to choose FLV7-400 or FLV8-400
This will result in a file size of about 1.8Mb per programme minute - full motion video - multi scene - 360x288px

Note that if your starting video format uses one of the old MJPEG motion video codec's you may have problems. Premiere Pro for example thinks material from our lossless video, online machine is quicktime and renders with PicVideo text overlays.  The work around is to simply record it out to DV and recapture.
I plan to do some proper tests soon and will post again on this.

All Too Difficult or Expensive ?
Look up your local video or filmmakers club - most are capable and helpful. and could do all the above in a short time. (maybe they need a website?)

Embedding FLV
Jeroen Wijering's website has some excellent information on doing this outside DNN. (From a link in another's post)
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Embedding_Flash
The only points I would add are:
Make sure that your server is configured to allow the mime type of .flv  (Doh ! 4 hours of why doesn't this work)
Web video can make big dents in your sites traffic allowances if they exist. It may be prudent to ask for registration simply so you can stop excessive viewings.
You may want to provide a downloadable file too. If you make a wmv file at the same time as the flash clip your viewers have an offline file that does not cost you bandwidth.
(I have had real problems viewing offline .flv on a range of machines.)
The Adobe Flash User Tutorial pages and Forums are a very good resource.

FLV Video in DNN
Like most DNNers I don't want to reinvent any wheels so after an afternoon playing with inline frames and more JS than was decent I went looking on Snowcovered.
I found and bought an FLV module from Jaydeep at Bhatti Modules. jaydeepbhatt@hotmail.com

At first there where some issues but Jaydeep fixed then all and now I have a very versatile module that does the job very nicely.
Once again a DNN coder has amazed me with the lengths they will go to in order to support what are small purchases (in ASP.net terms).
Thank You Jaydeep.

I am not sure that the version on Snow-covered and the one I now have are the same or even the cost so please email Jaydeep as above if this solution looks useful to you.

For myself I will buy an enterprise license now as I can use it for lots of things.
See it here. I load it into a container with a black BG for a cinematic effect.
Encoded at 700kps FLV8 Frame size is 400x240  2m 30secs, 15MB

There can be overlay issues when drop down menus cover flash objects as many menus will vanish behind the flash - this post has a solution.

I'm not able to find a link to the FLV video module - did you contact Jaydeep Bhatt directly about the module?
