At GoDaddy one has to install DNN in a subdirectory since GD will not give ASPNET or NERTWORK SERVICES Full Control of the Root directory.

I have had a secussful installation there for a couple of months, but being down one level was causing me problems with Google, Yahoo, and my sitelog since most access were redirected and I lost the referrer information. Today I moved it up to the root by creating several directories as advised in http://www.northernstarsolutions.com/DotNetNuke/SharedHostingSetup/tabid/61/Default.aspx

All worked well since I had added the new portal alises prior to using the new URL.  Threeproblems did appear:

  • Subportals (child) lost their photographs, from pages. Reediting foundthem were there were expected and added them to the pages.
  • The Photo gallery in the subportals caused and exception. Deleteing the page and re-entering the photo fixed this. I have seen this same bug when I bring a  Evotiva Backup copy home to my /localhost to do development. There seems to be more that needs to be done than fix the portal alias table when moving DNN.
  • While working on the above two problems I got an exception claiming that it couldn't assess web.config. However, the screen included lines from web.config so it clearly could read it.  When does DNN try to write web.config and any other files in the root?

Any Ideas on why the Photo Gallery doesn't like the move? I did move the complete Portals directory tree, resync the files and restart the app and still got these errors.
