I seen that Framework 3.0 has came out but i have a question on DNN and Framework 3.0.  I don’t know what fully changed in the new framework so my question may not matter.

I know when framework 2.0 came out DNN did a complete change and now there’s two type of DNN one for 1.1 and one for 2.0.  Is that going to happen for 3.0??  I'm rebuilding my whole site on DNN 4.4 and I just don’t want to do all this work if there is going to be a complete change again.

Thanks

AFAIK .NET 3.0 are all windows components, not really to be used by web applications, just by windows applications

There should be no impact to DNN. The .NET Framework 3.0 is really the .NET Framework 2.0 PLUS four new frameworks, Workflow Foundation (WF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Cardspace. Those 4 new frameworks were previously releases as WinFX, but Microsoft decided to roll them all together and call them the .NET Framework 3.0

So, since there's no change to the development framework being used by DNN, moving to .NET 3.0 will have zero impact. That is much different than the upgrade from 1.1 to 2.0  where Microsoft made major changes to the core developmemnt (including ASP.NET) framework and required significant code changes to the DNN core and modules.

Erik, the new components in .NET 3.0 can be used in both windows AND web applications. The Workflow Foundation (WF) component is specifically designed to be platform agnostic .. ie: a stand-alone workflow engine that can drive workflow functionality in both windows and web applications. It's possible to embed the workflow engine within a windows app, but it's certainly not just for windows apps. Same with Cardspace and the others. Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is the first step in a presentation framework that will allow you to run the same code base on both a client-hosted windows application and a browser based web app .. pretty exciting stuff
