I have setup the Authentication and all the tests are Passed when I update the Authentication page. But I have a problem when I try to login as Domain\Username, it never authenticates. So I commented the forms authentication in the web.config and uncommented the windows authentication. In this case Domain\Username logs in without any login form  - ok this is fine for windows authentication but then I cannot logout. (It would be great if both the AD users and the site users can login in the same way).

I am sure I am missing something but can't figure it out...

I hope someone here can let me know what I am doing wrong.

I was never able to figure this out along with many other issues. I bought this third party module that is GREAT! it's on snowcovered.com and it's called Easy Active Directory 3x and they also have one for DNN 4. it solved alot of my problems.

I have a DNN 4.0.2 test portal setup with .NET 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 SP1. This post is just information for other potential users.

I just bought Easy Active Directory 4.2 and found problems with it:

  1. Requires "log on locally" right for AD users on the web server (a bit of a security problem)
  2. Attempts authentication against AD before the DNN user database, causing unnecessary security events on the web server.
  3. Lacks any AD group integration, so an AD user can log in, perform the simple register, but not get at anything until they are put into a standard DNN security role.

I posted the above information at Snowcovered's help desk, hoping the developer "CodeFreak" would respond positively with something like "We'll look into this..." Instead, the only response was "Refund authorized".

I'm glad to get my money back, but for them to not even think about changes makes me pretty wary of ever using anything by that developer. Who is "CodeFreak" anyway? Can't find a web site for this developer. Only interaction seems to be via Snowcovered.
