Is there a 3rd party module that can do this, or how could I do this myself? I have Vis Studio 2005, Enterprise Manager and am DNN 4.3.7. Any help on any part would be much appreciated.

A - When a user opens the site, their Windows login is checked in the dotnetnuke users list to see if it exists.
B - If it does, they go stright to the homepage.
C - If it doesn't, they go to the registration page.
D - At the registration page, they can pick what work department they belong to using checkboxes. (Some users can be part of a number of departments.)
E - A new user is created and a new role is created for this user.
F - A text/html module is added to the homepage.
G - This module is assigned the role created in step E so that they can edit their own little text module on the home page.
H - This role is also allowed to view department pages based on what they chose in step D.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Rodney Joice's Smart Thinker site has a module that let's users have personal pages. I don't have the link but you should find it by searching the forum.

Do you know the truth when you hear it?

You want to create a role that is specific to a user? - or are you really wanting to let users asign themselves to roles and then have a module that pulls up text based on userid?  - I think I can help you develop it but need to understand better what you want to do

Here is some more info, maybe there is a better way to do it apart from what I came up with..

There are 2 security levels for staff members. Workers and Managers.

On each homepage all staff members will see 2 modules. One will be their personal module, the other, their department module. All staff can edit their personal module. The department module can only be edited by the manager. This will allow all staff to write personal notes for themselves (eg phone numbers, things to do, links to pages etc) It will also allow managhers to write important notes in the department module for their staff to read.

To put it in other words..

Workers' homepages will contain 2 text/html modules.

  1. One is the worker's personal module. The worker is the only one who can view it and edit it.
  2. The other is the worker's department module. All workers from this department can view this module but cannot edit it.

Managers' homepages will also contain 2 text/html modules.

  1. One will be the manager's personal module. The manager is the only one who can view it and edit it.
  2. The other is the manager's department module. This is the same module as what this manager's workers can view from point 2 above. However the manager can view and edit the module.
