Your answer sounds logical but doesn't explain how you have set permissions on the document module to use that subfolder. Please expound on your solution or maybe one on the dev team could deign to participate in the discussion?

The documents module automatically creates a folder under I believe Documents/<moduleid>.  YOu can then grant permissions to that directory.

I am having this issue as well, and the above solution is not working for me. I have installed an instance of the module on the page. Went into the settings for the module and gave edit module permissions to the group that I would like to be able to upload files. I then went into the File Manager and created a folder and gave the same group as before edit permissions to that folder. When that did not work, I gave them edit permissions to the root. Still not go. The problem is that the users cannot see the Add New Document link on the module when they get to the page.

same issue here.

added the module.  added permissions to edit the module.  created a folder.  added read and write permissions to folder.

no 'upload file' link.  if i temp make the user an admin the link is there.

any ideas on this?

ok, think i figured it out.  my testing confirms the following:

when you apply permissions (on a folder and the module) to an individual user, the upload link never appears.  however, if you create a group, add the user to the group, then apply the same permissions to this group, the link appears.

Sorry uglyb0b, no go. I am having the same issue, and nothing has worked so far.

I created a subfolder in the Root called "Documents" (I can't see a Documents/<moduleid> folder in my file manager, even after adding the Documents module). I then created a security role that was automatically assigned to all of my users. I gave that role the permission to view/write to the subfolder. When logged in as this role, I can see the drop-downs to select files, but nothing to upload a new file.

I deleted the original role I made, and remade it with a different name and without automatically assigning it. I then manually assigned one of my users to the role, and recreated the folder permissions. Again, there is no "Upload New Document" link. I made sure the module itself had the right permission settings (for the new role to be able to edit it), but still no link.

I am using version 3.0.13, with the default Documents module in that version.
