Hi all,

I am able to develop a DNN module using the DAL+ tutorial from Michael Washington, but in there the database used is the default DotNetNuke database, but my requirement is to use custom database.I know that its not possible to get all the user and Module authentications with a Custom database,Can any one throw some light to show me how to develop a module working with custom database maintaning all the authentications from DNN core.

You will need a second connection string in your web.config and usage of the classic DAL so that your module may access data from another database as well as the dotnetnuke db for authentication and other services.

Do you know the truth when you hear it?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

As mentioned by you,so if  I develop accordingly,Can i be able to dispay the data from my custom database in datagrid with specified dotnentnuke user authentications?

My requirement is to display the data of a table called company from the custom database in the module datagrid.

Should I need to create any tables in DNN database to maintain userid, moduleid etc,If yes pls give a detail view about it. or Is there any need to create userid, moduleid fields in my company table?

Please reconfirm me.Thanks in advance

If there is a record in your custom database table that corresponds with a user, you should include a userid column in that table. You can get the current users Id, Profile, and Roles pretty easy in the application code if your class inhereits from Dotnetnuke.Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase

Examples:

Dim i as int = UserId
UserInfo.IsInRole("RoleNameGoesHere")
UserInfo.FullName
UserInfo.Profile.GetProperty("Profile Property Name")
