I am looking for a module or something that will convert word documents to html - I know word does this but we don't want all of that extra code. We want something simple for other users from our organization to convert files / add text to the website without having to format it. What is the best way to go about doing this? Thanks!

You could maybe use the IFRAME module to embed the actual documents on your site in your pages while retaining site navigation.  I've used the IFRAME with pdf's with decent success.

there are commecial server based file converters available, but most of them are rather far from being cheap.

Install the FCK editor provider as used in this forum. Up there in the toolbar is a paste button with a W on it. That pastes from Word whilst stripping the extraneous styles. You can easily create your own toolbar and remove the other paste buttons if you want to reduce confusion.

There is also a button that removes all formatting and pastes plain text, but that will probably go too far for your needs.

The disadvantage of letting users paste formatted content is that it will override your set styles... meaning you'll end up with different fonts all over the place after a while.
