The whats new module will show content to unauthorized users.  If I have a role "internal" and a role "external" where there is information shown only to those with the "internal" role, the "what's new" module will show new items (including descriptions and all) to users with only the "external" role.  This is very unfortunate.

Also, what's new shows the module name as it was first inserted as.  For example, if I insert a "Text / HTML" module without first giving it a title it will have a default title of "Text / HTML" and that will be the name that appears for it under the "what's new" module even though I change it immediately.  I think if the what's new module had a foriegn key to the module it references or something like that this might be avoided.

If you delete an item that previously was on the what's new module it is still on the "What's New" list after the deletion.  It would be nice if it just didn't show up or showed an alert or page that notified the item had been deleted.  I think if it just didn't show up that would be the best solution.

Hello, I have the same problem but couldn't find any solution in this forum at this time. However, I managed to clean-up the deleted item manually by also removing the entry directly from the database table 'SearchItem'. Hopefully this will be a suitable workaround for you also until the 'whats new' module is updated.

Dennis,

I know its been awhile since you left your post, but I'll respond back anyways.  I discovered that the what's new module does honor protected information.  I think it may be a big quirky however in that it stores information that (for example) is available to all users.  However, if that information then gets set so that only people in the "Paid User" role can view it (or something like that) it may still appear on the What's New list.  So, if you configure your security settings correctly to begin with, I think it works as expected, but if you don't then things could possibly get hairy.

Perhaps other dnn users know better than I, but thats been my experience.  I was happy to learn this because it just taught me to be careful with my security settings early on and that I could still use the Whats New module!
