FWIW there is a similar notice posted on Web4life.com when they install DNN.  They claim there is a problem with installing the Forum module but you are welcome to install it yourself.  I don't know why there would be a difference.

Didn't mean to hit you with the double negative but it was late last night I guess.  What I was really trying to say was I am trying out a couple of difference services and am going to go with the service that gives me and my upcomming projects the best fit.  At the moment GoDaddy is not at the top of my list.

I think there is some confusion in the thread about installing components/modules in a shared hosting environment. Shared hosters like GoDaddy usually don't allow users to install COM components, or .Net components that go in to the Global Assembly Cache because these components can affect other websites on their server. However, they do allow you to upload .Net components into your local website because .Net provides them with security assurances so that these components can't affect other websites on the same server. DotNetNuke modules are implemented like this, so you can install them without going through your Web Host, as long as you have SuperUser access to your portal.

Just to clarify, here are the steps to download and install a module into your DNN installation:
  1. Download the module package (in the case of the module we provide, you can get them from the Project Pages) to your local computer (not your Web Server).
  2. Log in as a SuperUser.
  3. Go to the Host > Module Defintions page.
  4. Move your mouse over top of the small downwards arrow in the top-left corner of the "Module Definitions" module (beside the text "Module Definitions") and click "Install New Module".
  5. Browse to the module package you downloaded and upload it.
Note that in recent versions, in the Module Definitions page you can also jump directly to the DotNetNuke Projects website or the DotNetNuke Marketplace (where you can purchase third-party modules).

I hope that clears things up!

Hi, there...

The problem with Go Daddy is that it advertises DotNetNuke as a forum platform! Kevin got a better answer from the Godaddy customer support than I ever did. I just wanted to know what came standard with their install and if there was a change... and they couldn't tell me. Was the fact that the 3.x package didn't install an error, or was it deliberate because that is where the forum and other modules resided?

If it happened to other people, then it was probably deliberate... Just FYI, I did go and download the modules and then uploaded them to the site through the interface, and they seem to work just fine... but their tech support is so out there. See below for what I mean..

Support Staff Response
Dear Sir / Madam -

Thank you for contacting hosting support. The DotNetNuke application at JESSICAPROUTY.COM/jphome/ is currently accessible and functioning. If there are different actions we can take to duplicate this error please let us know. Please let us know if you have any further questions, comments, or concerns.

Customer Inquiry

I uninstalled and reinstalled many times, but the GoDaddy installation of DotNetNuke on my Premium Hosted account doesn't come with the forums, discussions, guestbook, newsletter, etc. I always get the same error message and same install package, no matter what directory I try to install it in. (If you have taken out core apps from the program, then the customer should be told... (Customer service doesn't know what is standard so I don't know if this is an error, but judging from what I see on the DotNet Nuke boards, the standard install did come with forums, etc.)
If there is a database error or my account didn't upgrade to premium when it should have, please fix it..
I called, but they said it is free and I have to get support from the developer and not go daddy, but how can they help me?

Best,

Katherine
