I've done this on versions prior to 4.4.0 without a problem.  I searched the documentation and the forums for the anser to this but came up empty. 

I created new Profile Properties and want to enter the titles, help text and error messages into the resource files. 

I create my Profile.ascx.Portal-1.resx file by copying the Template.resx file to the "Admin/Users/APP_LocalResources" folder, renaming it and adding my new profile properties to it.  The format for the <name> entries is "ProfileProperty_newpropertyname.Text".  This doesn't work any more (it used to on previous versions).  Not only do my newly added entries not get displayed when I use the Language editor, I am getting a message "This files contains obsolete resources which are no more needed. Click save to remove these items permanently." at the top of the page when I attempt to view the file.  If I click update it deleted the Profile.ascx.Portal-1.resx file.

I'm thinking that when editing an entry a flag must get set indicating there are modified entries for the key that I modified.  How is one supposed to enter values for new Profile Properties???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind!!!  This is where Homer Simpson says "DOH!!!!".

My problem was the spelling of the resourse names. 

I hate it when computers are like that.
