afaik it has nothing to do with IE.

You might just need to reinstall the .Net framework, for instance if you installed IIS after you installed .Net. See this article for info on how to do that: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306005

If you have text such as that is appearing in your browser, it means the isapi mappings in IIS are not there. This commonly occurs when you install .NET before you install IIS. You can fix this by either going to a Visual Studio command prompt or navigating to the proper directory (C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322 usually. You might need to replace windows with winnt) and then running aspnet_regiis -i. This will re-map the isapi mappings.

Thanks Alec,

You appear to have been spot on. I thought I'd installed in the correct order, and did run dotnetfix but still had the problem. I have now run the aspnet_regiis file with an enable and i switch and reran the url fine and the result is:

'Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 03.03.07

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider'

OK here goes. I've edited the web.config file to insert my uid and password and ensured that the file name both in d:\inetpub\wwwroot and in the virtual directory is DotNetNuke, plus the other changes as per the guide.

I'm running mdac2.8 and desktop engine rather than fully blown sql server and I use sql manager lite (SML) to set up the database and user as per the instructions. Using SML I can connect to the database and the user with the same uid and password as in the wen.config file.

Any thing I'm missing here.

cheers

Emmsee

the connection string not only defines what db, user and pw, but also what network library is used. I'm not sure that a default msde install allows connections other than thru pipes. MSDE is notorious for not being configurable after it's been installed. Maybe you can upgrade to sql server 2005 express (also free, but it comes with "normal" configuration tools)

Anyway, I found a thread over on experts-exchange that might shed some light on it: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Databases/Microsoft_SQL_Server/Q_21453090.html

Thanks Eric,

To access the experts exchange url one needs to be a subscriber which I'm not. Any chance you could PM me the contents of Q_21453090.html.

Since your last post I've progressed a little. This a is a more recent post from me [ and explains the new problem more clearly]:

"Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 03.03.07
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider"

'I have run the "Install.aspx?mode=install" in ie7 and it connected to the dotnetnuke database fine and the script ran for maybe 3 minutes then I received an error referrring to line 130 in the web.config file <membership userIsOnlineTimeWindow="20">; changed the setting to 15, the default, and reran it and I now receive the error above after about 30 seconds.

I am using MSDE and .net 1.1.4322 and use 'sql manager for sql server lite' as my server interface. This program seems to have all the normal configuration tools.

Using windows authentication I can connect to the database and login under my login [ the one in web.config]. I've reset the registry data entry as per a recent post to "2" for multi authetication mode.

The weird thing is the first time I ran the Install.aspx?mode=install script it obviously connected to the server/database as I now have 60 tables, 7 views, 361 procedures,107 indices,3 UDF's and 9 Roles [ but no rules, defaults or projects] in the dotnetnuke database that weren't there before.

Asp.net is installed properly - test.aspx works fine. All permisssions have been checked.

So why would it connect Ok the first time and not the second? No changes between them except the web.config time mentioned above. Changing it back doen't help. Rebooting the computer doesnt help. OSLQ can connect fine. Disconnecting the database and reconnecting doesn't help. I've been back over the installation guide and rechecked all the settings etc; no different.

Any fixes please [ this is frustrating].

regards

emmsee
