Sure...I didn't mean that flatburger modules are defective in any way.  I just know that we installed a license (enterprise forms) onto a staging server, moved the site to a production server, and had major stability issues.  We were not using the module on any visible pages, but somehow robots or something was triggering database calls from the module.  The database would lock and the site would crash.  Removing the module and the module definitions instantly resolved the problem.

My message should have been more clear.  The truth is that moving ANY licensed module across servers warrants thorough testing and review.  I have noticed that some FlatBurger supplied modules seem to do fine when "copied" from one server to another.

I think the promotion is great.  I am getting to see and use live modules that I wouldn't normally buy just to try.  Some are already making our functionality better.

Hope that helps!

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for the information!  That actually helps a lot.  The behavior you describe is definitely a new issue for us.  Do you mind if I contact you directly to diagnose this issue, as what you describe should not have anything thing to do with the licensing technology, robots or not.  I would very much like to learn more.  If you don't mind, it would be a big help if you emailed me a jmcwilliam@flatburger.com as I would like to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Josh

Well we've actually discovered that many of these modules won't work on a secure production platform (behind a fireall that prevents outbound traffic).  The issue is that most (if not all) the modules have to reach out to external servers to validate the license key.  This means that module fails and sometimes renders the other modules on the same page useless. We're having to rebuild some applications on other tools now.

In fairness to Flatburger, they are making accomodations for us to continue to use the modules on our secure site.  Thanks Flatburger!

You could also contact the module developer ask them for a package without the Flatburger license protection.
