I just had my DNN 4.3.5 upgraded by my host to 4.1.1. I went to the module defs page and I am confused by what I see. I really tried to search the forums for these answers, but my search results return off-the-wall results.

Here is my example:

INSTALLED MODULES partially shows this:

  Module Name Description Version Upgrade
Available?
Edit [Skin Objects] Skin Objects are User Controls which can be used to provide custom functionality to your Skin files.
Edit Account Login Allows users to login to the portal. 01.00.00
Edit Announcements This module renders a list of announcements. Each announcement includes title, text and a "read more" link. 03.03.05

Then under AVAILABLE MODULES, one of the options is this:

The following modules are included with your application, but have not yet been installed. To install any of these modules, check the appropriate box(es) and click Install.

  1. Why does it say that Announcements needs installed, even though it states the same version as what is already installed? Should I check the box and "reinstall"?
  2. How is a module upgraded? Do I just upload it like I am adding a new custom module? Does it overwrite the old version? ie: Announcements 03.04.00
(The original DNN 4.3.5 had Announcements in use.)

Thank you for your answers!

did you use install package and installed Announcements module separately?

Hello Sebastian,
I had 4.3.5 running with only the core modules as supplied with that build. Announcements was in use on the site. I had ihostasp.net upgrade the site for me to 4.1.1. I don't know how they accomplished this or what their steps are. All I know is that this is a representative example of what my Module Def page shows right now. I don't know if this is a concern. Should I check the box to install what apparently is already present?

Then, how do I go about updating to the latest version? I have never done that. Do I just upload the new PA and does it overwrite the previous version, leaving my data intact?

Thanks,
Steve

IMO your provider should not uninstall any module without your confirmation. But if you have host access for your DNN installation, you can add or update modules by using "install new module". Existing modules will be upgraded w/o deleting the content.

For the sake of brevity, the example I provided above was just a clip of the whole page. I cannot see that they removed any modules. I am just confused why, after the upgrade to 4.4.1, the Module Def page says I need to install a module that appears to be already installed at the same version. Should I check the box and say install just to clean up the page? Something is not in sync here. I have included my entire page below for more clarity. Thanks very much for your time and help.
