Yes, progress, thanks.  I moved forward to  "Installing  Database Scripts"  and that's how it stayed for an hour until  I realised it wasn't going to happen.

From other threads today, I see I'm  not the only one having problems with the 4.5.2 install script.

I've now moved backwards it seems, having reinstalled the starter kit and  install on both 4.5.2 and 4.5.3

I now don't seem able to get around the problem which tells me my login has failed for mypcname/aspnet.

The modifcation sequence that seemed to fix my earlier problem now doesn't work at all because I can't connect at all.

What's needed I think is clarification.  I  don't really have any idea of what the install is attempting to do. Am I trying to connect using windows authentication and why is the ASPNET login failing if it's known to SQL Server. I can't give ASPNET permissions to the database before it exists. Perhaps I need to create it first?

Should I be running the install within Visual Studio or as a freestanding browser.

if I knew what permissions should be allocated to where before starting, I might stand a chance but  all I can see in terms of instructions is a thread on the Install Wizard which is the essence of the problem.

Now I think I've got somewhere. It only seems to work if the database has already been created, I use the automated script option and run through Visual Web Developer Express.

That seems to mean that this is the only way it will run, ie  I can "build" the site but  can't  open the link to the IIS virtual directory without going through VWD Espress.
