overwriting existing files is correct. Ensure, that permissions are still existing and web.config is in place and updated. if necessary, restart application or IIS.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I did already checked the permissions and the web.config is just fine. I restarted my ISS several times. I've checked a huge ammount of forum topics before adding one by myself. Is it always difficult to upgrade from dnn 3 to 4? I followed the upgrade steps at Deutschnetnuke, but still it's not working.

This problem above is fixed. I didn't use the right application pool. That's oke now, but I'm getting another upgrade error when he tries to upgrade

I'm having exactly the same problem. All permissions are set correctly, web.config customerrors mode set to off and I get that parameter null error.

I'm here for exactly the same reason - I was having problems finding out HOW to upgrade my 4.4.1 installation until I got an email stating that 4.6 was available ALONG WITH links to instructions on HOW to perform the upgrade.

I printed out the instructions and followed them; in my case I reinstalled 4.4.1 fresh so it didn't need to back up anything cause I've been blowing away my install every time I run into a problems.

Everything completed successfully EXCEPT where as on the instructions it says the database should be 4.05.04, mine said 4.04.?? (I forget the last two numbers now)

So everything completed except that the database seems to have been left behind?

I'm currently evaluating DNN for the forum modules (the built in one and also Active Forums) and towards the end of the day I started getting SQL script not present errors and other things getting funky so I'm ready again to blow away my install and try again (sigh)...

Is there any reason WHY the install appeared to succeed but the database wasn't updated?

I would like to use DNN for my company's support portal but if I can't seem to get a comfortable footing here...

Any help appreciated!

-Will
