For svegors: The instructions are for SQL Server Express. If you have SQL Server, they won't work for you. If you have Express, the configuration manager should be in your start menu.

For those having the error message:

Try changing:

 Data Source=.\SQLExpress

to

Data Source=<your machine name>\SQLExpress

Hey Kathy, thanks for the great writeup about getting DNN to work on this setup! I just wanted to add that I wasn't able to get it installed until I granted the SQL login user I created a db_owner role. Did I miss a step in the instructions or is this just something that needs to be done?

Thanks for the great post.  It helped me confirm my steps plus gave me a couple of new ones.  Unfortunately, I'm still getting an error.  Has anyone seen this one?

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

Line 72:
Line 73: 'check if this is an "html" file
Line 74: If Request.Url.LocalPath.ToLower.EndsWith(".html") Then
Line 75: Exit Sub
Line 76: End If

I've tried reinstalling several times.  I've even tried installing 4.03 and I still get the same error.

By the way, I'm using SQL server rather than express.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

GB21

Hi KathrynRF,

In your post you say:

"Select the database from the “default database” dropdown (MyDB)"

Am I a complete luddite here? I can find no reference anywhere for MyDB... I have searched but it just isn't there.

Also, the bits that get added to <connectionstrings> and <appsettings>... do they just get added in the middle of the string or do they replace the end of the string?

I heard this was easy and I have no idea what is going on! any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe
