So just when I think I spent the whole weekend at this only to find out that all my old accounts cannot log into the finally (almost) restored site. There are a few formatting and house cleaning, but I can handle that. Problem now is all the users can not log in and I will geat an email "An attempt was made to access a locked out user account..." Is there a way to restore the accounts?

this sounds definitely like the machine key has been altered. please compare it with an older backup of your web.config. Otherwise you may follow my instructions (http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/183/Default.aspx) to restore host access and will need to reset all passwords. Modules like the ones from PHDobson on Snowcovered.com might help to update all passwords.

Cheers from Germany,
