All custom files and your skin files are located in the file system (/portals subdirectory)

Web.config file holds important information as well as some modules might store configuration and custom templates in file system.

Module files need to be in place for your web site to show the pages they are placed on (information in the database).

In summary: DotNetNuke directory AND database together form your web site and need to be backed up and restored together.

Thanks Leopold for your clarification.

I tried to install a dnn492 using a db created and used by a dnn50001 and it did not work. Any sort of error came up and also the db was corrupted at the end.

I restored the db pointed back the domain to the original folder and everithing was back in perfect health.

Since my main problem is definetely related to the bad combination of IE6 and dnn50001 I wonder if I could be succesful in downgrading to dnn50000.

Infact the link/menu problem came up only after upgrading from 50000 to 50001.

Before I only had a problem with the map module, problem I hope it would be fixed by 50001 but it did not.

I also wonder if this bad combination problem will ever be fixed because I can certainly wait if there are plans on that.

One thing I am sure, without this forum and the helpfull people like you and others willing to help, I would have already quit with dnn. Instead I am learning every day a littel chunck and this is certainly a positive thing.

Ciao from Italy

enzo

Thanks

Enzo,

there are a number of issues, which will be fixed in future versions - if we get notified properly in our issue trackers at support.dotnetnuke.com. If you encounter an error, check the forums for a configuration solution and the appropriate issue tracker, if it is already logged. If not, please log it yourself into the public tracker (2nd from top).

Cheers from Germany,
