There is an issue with your database, if you opened the file with a tool, you may have a look at this post.

I always suggest to manually create a blank database, grant permission for your user to it and use "classical" connection string.

Hi Sebastian, thanks for your help, this worked.  I basically created a new mdf database in Visual Studio, placed it in the database folder, mounted it to SQL Express, gave it a respectable name and voila.  Thanks for your help, you're a diamond.
