Pete, in this case I strongly suggest to use free XP Pro IIS admin from www.jetstat.com, which allow you to switch between multiple web sites on your machine

Thanks for that Sebastian, have downloaded & installed the above, that will make life a lot easier.

I'm just not sure about setting up on my C: drive (for a second site). Do I need to do a complete new install for the second site in a new folder on my C: drive ? I'm really stumbling around in the dark here !! Basically, I want 2 separate site so I can learn/experiment with different designs etc.

 Thanks very much.

Pete

Pete,

I suggest to use a separate installation for testing, not only an additonal child portal, because any code installed (module, provider, skin object or parsed skin) will affect stability and security of the complete installation.

Do not place your install directory inside inetpub/wwwroot!

Just curious about this recomendation. I have installed several test sites on localhost and always put them in inetpub/wwwroot. Why do you say not to do this? The only problem I've seen doing it this way is a path issue with image files if the site is later moved to a hosted environment, but that is easily fixed with Mitch Sellers text replace tool.

Thanks,
Ed

Sorry Sebastian, another question!

When I try to start the install process for the second site (after setting up a second site in the jetstat utility) the browser can't find the correct page.

Do I still use this URL:   http://localhost/my_second_site   to start the install process?

BTW, I've unzipped the 4.9 install files into a new folder on my C: and made sure this site is running in IIS and the other site is stopped.

Your words of wisdom please Sebastian.

Thanks, Pete
