I installed DNN 5.01 Community on a 2003 intranet server and ran it to build itself, thus was able to see it on the localhost/dnn - but can not see it from another computer. Earlier today I installed a competing product, and able to see it from other computers. Both applications sit under inetpub, both have the same virtual directory setup. Their web.configs are very different, perhaps some kind of permission is needed?

You will have to add another entry for the portal alias. If you login to the DNN instance at http://localhost/dnn and go to Admin->Site Settings, at the bottom of the settings there is a Portal Alias option. Make sure the alias needed to view the site from the network is there. IIS will direct the traffic to the DNN instance, but the DNN instance won't know where to send them if the alias isn't in the portalalias table.

"Localhost" can't be accessed from another system, so you need to access DNN by the system name, IP or FQDN.  Which requires a portal alias as mentioned.

Out of curiousity, what other product where you looking at... and how were you addressing it from the second computer?
