Good day,

I have recently upgraded my DNN CE installation from v4.9.5 to v5.2.3.  With this I also upgraded my .NET Framework to version 3.5 SP1.  Just yesterday I installed a new 3rd party module (Dynamic Forms) and am receiving the 'UpdatePanel' is ambiguous in the namespace" error.  From what I have read on various posts it looks like a conflicting system.web.extension settings, but don't know how to resolve the issue.  There is a system.web.extension.dll (version 1.0.61025.0) in my /bin directory, and I have another version in the c:\program files\reference assemblies\microsoft\framework\v3.5 folder (version 3.5.0.0).  My Host Settings states that I am running .NET Framework 3.5.  My web.config file has some entries referencing 1.0.61025.0 and other entries referencing 3.5.0.0.  Basically under the "controls" section it references " namespace="System.Web.UI" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0.  This is also true for the " namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls".  All other references in web.config is for "System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0.

How can I clean it up so that all works correctly, taking into consideration that I am still very new with DNN and I am not a developer!

Thanks so much!

- Joe

For some reason, the upgrade of web.config either did not occur or only partially occured. There should be no references to version 1.061025.0 of System.Web.Extensions in the DotNetNuke version 5.02.03 web.config. I would:

1. Remove System.Web.Extensions.dll (version 1.061025.0) from the \bin folder.

2. Compare your web.config carefully with the web.config from a DotNetNuke version 5.03.03 install package and after making a backup copy of your web.config very carefully modify the sections of your  web.config to match those relating to System.Web.Extensions and other assembly references to version 3.5.0.0. If your web.config does not have the <runtime><assemblyBinding> . . . . </assemblyBinding></runtime> section you will need to add that as well.

Thanks alot for the suggestions Bill...really appreciate you taking the time to assist a novice!  I'll do as suggested.

One question though, I did see references to making sure the <runtime><assemblyBinding> . . . . </assemblyBinding></runtime> section was located within web.config, but various opinions on what should specifically be within this section.  Can you provide a sample of what it should look like?

Thanks again!

I would recommend including the <runtime><assemblyBinding> . . . . </assemblyBinding></runtime> exactly as copied from the fresh web.config found in the install package of 5.2.3.

I am, however, quite concerned that perhaps none of the web.config changes required for DNN 5.x took place during the upgrade. For example, do you see any references to Telerik.Web.UI in your web.config? If not, do you recall seeing any error messages during the upgrade?  If error messages were noted, it may be better to restore the site back to DNN 4.9.5 using your backup of the site's files and backup of the database, figure out what went wrong, then reattempt the upgrade.

Thanks Bill.  I searched web.config and found no reference to Telerik.Web.UI.  There were no error messages during the upgrade from 4.9.5 to 5.2.3.  I'll revert back to my 4.9.5 backup and go from there...what entries should exist for Telerik.Web.UI on a successful upgrade (just so I know if my next upgrade was successful)?  Would you suggest to go right to 5.3.3 instead of 5.2.3?

Thanks,

- Joe
