if it is a new install, you also need to make sure, your IIS web site is configured appropriately.

Thanks to both of you for replying!

It is a new install. I thought it was really weird when it said it was updating. I will follow your advice and delete everything and start over.
When it comes to IIS i wouldnt know how to configure it. I am using a hosting service with PLESK panel, in case you know it, and it seems kind of limited when it comes to configiurations. Isnt it supposed to be possible to install and run DNN on a hosted server?

You can run DNN in a hosted envionrment. There are many thousands of DNN installations on hosted environments where  PLESK is used.
Please verify that when you are selecting a version to install in PLESK that it is the INSTALL package for DNN and not the upgrade package
You're getting this "Domain Name Windows Server 2008 Does Not Exist In The Database" error because you were running an update of DNN as a fresh installation and there is no web.config included in DNN update packages

I have my websites hosted and I access by Plesk too, or ftp!

You just need to place the install package files on httpdocs (If you want to runt it on the root directory, I guess you do), Plesk makes it very easy to create an MS SQL or MySQL database depending on your host!

So just create a database and define a user, this user will be set has owner if all goes well, if not ask your host to change it for you!

In the first install you will get a wizard where, it will check for file permissions and allow you to setup the database parameters, this is where you must "point it" to the database you've created and enter the user and password you choose! the server is in most common cases "localhost" but your host can confirm that (or just check it on plesk when you add the Database you have to select the available SLQ servers, but like I said in most cases you only see localhost)

If this wizard is not showing up you downloaded an upgrade package and not and install!

If you have a release.config file and no web.config, then its an upgrade package for sure!

Thanks you guys!
Sounds like i have embaressed myself and indeed downloaded an upgrade package. I will check that.
Its nice to hear that there should not be any problem in using PLESK! :)
When i have time i will follow your advice and then report back.

THANKS AGAIN!
