We are looking to put a site together for our rental properties. Every time we purchase a new property, we want to build a site and add it to our main DNN site. We would like each site to have it's own URL.  We are thinking of opening this up as a service to other property owners as well. So in the future we may only own 1 or 2 portals on the site and rent out the other portals for hosting revenue.

We where thinking of making every portal a parent portal and wanted to get some feedback from the community. We are also looking for a hosting company that will allow several or unlimited domains to a hosting package. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What you're proposing is done quite often.  There are numerous examples of companies having several parent portals.  Many do it for SEO, and your use case is common too.

Many hosts will allow multiple or unlimited domains.  Just be very careful to read through your hosting plan before you choose one.  I know Applied Innovations is pretty flexible in this regard.  That being said, I would suggest hosting your domains and DNS outside of any web host you choose, and only user their web hosting.

thanks Will for the help! Do you think parent portals are the way to go for what we are trying to achieve? I keep reading opinions for both methods and it is getting confusing as to what is the most effective.

As long as the other portals have the same technical requirements, then there's no reason to have multiple instances of DNN.  It's overkill.  But it also depends on your web server resources.

What do you mean by same technical requirements? They utilize the same mods? Each site should realistically have the same mods running. The only difference should be the users registered to each portal. Our customers will most likely want to export their registered users for accounting purposes.

We figured we would move to a more dedicated hosting package, once the demand is high enough. that's why we are asking for suggestions. I am sure there are other DNN users who are hosting with this similar set-up.
