I have turned compression off and the results are the same.

The extra characters are not consistent, the contents are random.

I was able to reproduce the problem at a local hotspot, and there were no extra characters so now I'm confused. But the problem was also reproduceable there. I also tried a library computer with Windows XP, same results. about one in 8 screens doesn't display the modules. They are getting downloaded, I can see them when I view source, just not displayed.

I noticed that this is also happening on my main business site. I’m curious if you can reproduce on my site. Go to softexit.com and click the home menu several times and let me know if any of them come up blank.

Thanks for your attention on this.

James

I did observe the problem (about 1 in 5-8 times).  When I saw the problem I captured the page source - especially in the area where the modules should be injected.
<tr>
<td id="dnn_Bottomleftpane" colspan="2" valign="top" class="Bottomleftpane DNNEmptyPane"></td>

<td id="dnn_Bottomrightpane" valign="top" class="Bottomrightpane DNNEmptyPane"></td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td id="dnn_Contentpane" colspan="3" valign="top" class="Contentpane DNNEmptyPane"></td>

</tr>

Note that dnn thinks there are no modules - the class applied is DNNEmptyPane - and the modules are not rendered there.

One issue might be the Module Caching.  Can I suggest that you edit the Module Settings for one of the modules on the front page - and ensure that the Module cache Duration is set to 0 or -1.

And see if you can reproduse the behaviour.

So after further thought I think that you need to open Default.aspx in a text editor and ensure that the </html> is the last character in the file.  I have noticed in my dev copy that there is at least a line feed.

I'm so glad that you could repro, now you know I'm not crazy ;-)

I think I got it to stop and it makes no sense to me at all, why two exact page contents could display differently.

My current theory is that it is related to the "Unravel - Blue Title Bar, Grey GB, Icon" container in the "Unravel" skin that's in your Skin Contest pages. It could also be related to the combinations of using page default containers with container overrides. I set all containers to the page default and the problem seems to have disappeared. Since it's an intermittent issue, I need to keep trying the page, but I haven't seen the issue in a while,

I realized that many of my sites use different skins, but all of the sites that are having this problem used the same containers. The only site that has never displayed this behavior uses a different container. Man, I really like that container's look :-(

Can you try using that container on one of your sites and see if you can repro.

Glad you solved the issue - at least it appears you have.

Can you post something in the skinning forum about the container issue.
