just to note btw. the localhost worked when dnn was first installed, around 1 year ago. i believe this was before the SSL was added though. could this be affecting it? Or alternatively, is it possible that its been set up on another port & I havent realised? IIS says port 80 and i cant find any other reference to any other port. Given the serious security issue with any pre-5.5.0 packages I would strongly recommend you upgrade to 5.5.1 immediately. If you cannot upgrade then you are going to have to manually edit your web.config file and change "humanfriendlyURLs" to "searchfriendlyURLs" for https sites to work.

If you don't have access to IIS then you have a fairly large problem. You need to be running as Admin/with Admin rights in order to install DNN.

If you are trying to upgrade on a Hosted site then you likely need to contact Support for that Hosting Provider
