I entered the database connection info from the install wizard. After install ends in error, my web.config connection string info is as follows:

< connectionstrings>
< !-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express -->
< add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionstring="Data Source=bus0300;Initial Catalog=dnn_BTS;User ID=***;Password='''" providername="System.Data.SqlClient">
< /add>< /connectionstrings>

Interesting that the active connection string is defined under the SQL Express section even though I selected SQL 2005 in the wizard.

Somehow my connection string didn't come thru in last post.

<
connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=bus0300;Initial Catalog=dnn_BTS;User ID=dnn_TST;Password=#######" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    -->
  </connectionStrings>

the wizard simply edits the first string, regardless of any comments. I removed username and password. The connection string in app settings should be the same. is your sql server configured for remote connections? did you install TCP/IP protocol for server and client?

app settings is the same, syntax is slighty different....instead of "connectionString=" it is "value=".

Yes, TCP/IP protocol is enabled on SQL 2005 server.  The install wizard connects to the newly created database and creates many tables and other database objects.
